Sándor Czomba: domestic employment remains high
Based on the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the number of employed people reached around 4,699,000 in September 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (NGM) pointed out in its statement on Friday.
The state secretary responsible for employment policy explained in relation to the data that the minimal decrease seen in the number of employed persons compared to the previous year is due to the fact that the number of employed persons in September of last year was at a historically outstanding level.
Sándor Czomba added: unemployment in Hungary is still below the EU average. The government’s goal is to raise the employment rate to 85 percent and mobilize the labor market reserve of around 300,000 people. EU-funded activity-promoting programs such as the Youth Guarantee Plus program, which helps job-seeking and inactive young people under the age of 30 to get to work, have also contributed to this. So far, more than 9,000 have returned to the world of work.
With the program supporting people over 30 years of age – also funded by the EU – older people can also benefit from wage subsidies, housing and travel allowances, with the help of the project, nearly 10,000 job seekers have already found employment.
