Sándor Czomba: The number of registered job seekers has not been this low since the change of regime
According to data from the National Employment Service, in December 2024, only 220.8 thousand people were registered as job seekers, which is a decrease of more than 4 thousand people compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of job seekers decreased by more than 4 thousand people not only on an annual basis, but also compared to the previous month.
The State Secretary for Employment Policy highlighted: The improvement of the Hungarian labor market is being strengthened by the revival of economic activity in the 15-64 age group and the increasing willingness to work among people of retirement age. Together, these factors contribute to more and more of our compatriots joining the labor market, which has increased by 1 million people since 2010.
The government continues to pay special attention to supporting job seekers. The Youth Guarantee Plus Programme supports young people under 30, while another EU-funded project provides support for job seekers over 30. Both initiatives aim to help them find work through wage subsidies, housing and travel allowances. With the help of the programmes, around 27,000 job seekers have already found a job.
The government is working to ensure that families have as much income as possible. As part of the New Economic Policy Action Plan, which consists of 21 measures, a three-year wage agreement has been reached, according to which the minimum wage will increase by 40% by 2027: by 9% this year to HUF 290,800, by 13% in 2026 to HUF 328,600, and by 14% in 2027 to HUF 374,600.
