Magazine: Cybermarketing
Part of the Facebook site’s popularity lies in its various applications, many of which are related to bars and restaurants. One of these was launched by San Francisco bars and is called Bartab. It enables friends on Facebook to send real 2-dollar drinks to each other. The sender pays 1 dollar and drinks are received as wall posts and claimed at the bar for 1 dollar with the user’s cell phone, to which a message arrives with an identification number and the name of the bar. Restaurant chain 4food, in New York has taken the use of Facebook as a marketing tool to a whole new level: in the restaurant guests can order their food with their iPads, while from their homes they can order with their computers. They are free to choose the ingredients of their burgers, and they can even give a name to their creation and share it with friends on Facebook or Twitter. If someone orders a menu that a customer created 25 cents will be credited to his or her 4food account!
