Cunning merger
Hungarian regulation on mergers has changed fundamentally. Due to the changes in competition law, in the future a transaction can be approved in 8 day instead of the present 30 days, for a fee of HUF 1 million if there are no competition law problems with the merger. The threshold for the mandatory reporting of a merger increases to HUF 1 billion. An analysis by Hegymegi-Barakonyi and Co. Baker & McKenzie Law Firm reveals: although in the future the parties involved won’t need the permission of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) for a transaction, they will have to report the merger to the authorities.
