P&G to move tampon manufacturing from Hungary to the US
Procter & Gamble has announced plans to relocate manufacturing work from a Budapest suburb to the United States.
Procter & Gamble is moving production from a plant manufacturing tampons
and sanitary towels in the Budapest suburb of Csömör to its Tambrands
subsidiary in Auburn, Maine. Tambrands, the sole manufacturer of Tampax tampons
in North America, will expand capacity in Auburn to meet production
requirements, without adding new jobs.
Opened in 1991 and upgraded to almost twice its previous size 4 years ago, the
Csömör plant is producing the Always and Tampax brands for European, US and Australian
markets with 700 employees. The factory exports 95% of its products. The
company has not yet released any information about restructuring and potential
layoff plans at the plant.
