Packaging technology company: damage from returning damaged products at Christmas can reach 18.1 billion euros in Europe
The return of damaged products at Christmas can cause damage of 18.1 billion to European companies, the packaging technology company DS Smith told MTI.
According to their survey, products purchased online will account for 21 percent of total sales globally in 2022, and the proportion may rise to 24.5 percent by 2025.
Last year, 45 percent of customers received a damaged package, which meant 377 million problematic products, which cost an average of 47.94 euros per piece.
According to the data, from last year’s 26 euros to 21.5 euros on average, the psychological threshold at which customers decide to return has decreased.
43 percent of European customers expect free delivery and returns, while more and more brands are considering charging a fee for returns, pointed out DS Smith.
