The number of food safety alerts decreased in the EU
Compared to a year earlier, the number of food safety alerts indicated by the EU Member States declined by 9 percent in 2013- the European Commission announced on Friday.
In 2013, the authorities and institutions of the EU Member States, as well as the authorities of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland alerted the authorities in a total of 3,205 cases through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). Most of the alerts were about banning some food or feed not allowing these products into the European Union. The shipment were intercepted at the borders. (MTI)
