Agricultural foreign trade surplus decreased in the first three quarters of 2025

The value of agricultural and food product exports amounted to 10 billion euros, while its import value amounted to 7,474 million euros in the first three quarters of 2025. The agricultural foreign trade surplus was 2,520 million euros, 552 million euros less than in the first three quarters of 2024. The export value of agricultural and food product exports decreased by 3.7 percent, while its import value increased by 2.3 percent in the first nine months of 2025, and the balance deteriorated by 18 percent compared to the first three quarters of 2024.

The export volume of agricultural and food product exports decreased by 22.9 percent, while its import volume increased by 0.4 percent in the first nine months of 2025. National economy exports increased by 1.6 percent, while imports increased by 1 percent. The share of agricultural and food products in the total national economy export value was 9.1 percent and 7.3 percent of the import value in the first three quarters of 2025. Out of the 24 commodity groups of agricultural and food products, the export value of 10 increased and 14 decreased in the first three quarters of 2025 compared to the base period. The largest decrease in export value affected cereals (KN10) (-461.9 million euros), mainly due to the fall in the export value of wheat (-246.8 million euros) and maize (-144.7 million euros). The largest increase in export value occurred in the commodity group of animal and vegetable fats and oils (KN15) (+95.1 million euros), thus becoming the 6th most important commodity group. The export value of various edible preparations (KN21) increased by EUR 79.9 million, and that of live animals (KN01) by EUR 54.4 million. The export value of cocoa preparations (KN18) increased by EUR 37.4 million compared to 2024, mainly due to the increase in the export value of other chocolate and cocoa-containing food preparations by EUR 32.8 million. The export value of meat and fish products, or food preparations of animal origin (KN16) increased by EUR 12.1 million, and that of tobacco products (KN24) increased by EUR 6.4 million compared to the base period. The export value of the coffee, tea, spices group (KN09) exceeded 2024 by EUR 4.7 million, as the export value of coffee increased by 16.8 percent to EUR 43.7 million. On the import side, the value of cocoa products (KN18) and the dairy products, eggs, honey group (KN04) increased the most, by 116.8 and 63.5 million euros, respectively. The import value of beverages, spirits, vinegar (KN22) increased by 43.5, and that of animal and vegetable fats and oils (KN15) by 42.6 million euros. The import value of live animals (KN01) decreased the most (-91.5 million euros), primarily due to the decrease of live pigs by 64.8 million euros and live cattle by 35.8 million euros.
