Domestic products’ share shrinking among dairy products
Last year milk processing generated a gross production value of HUF 218 billion. Production cost was HUF 75-80/kg – rather competitive, if we consider that in the EU the average is above HUF 100. Processing companies purchased milk in the volume of 1.2 billion litres, 6 percent less than last year. Milk and dairy products, made from Hungarian base material, have been experiencing shrinking sales for years; import is also significant. In 2009, milk producers’ loss amounted to HUF 10 billion.
