Imre Hubai emphasized that there is no strong Hungarian agriculture without strong, sovereign Hungarian animal husbandry. He added that the stability of agriculture is provided by the efficient and unified operation of crop production and animal husbandry. Since the government took office in 2010, animal husbandry has expanded by 171 percent. The State Secretary emphasized that the Hungarian Livestock Owners’ Association (MÁSZ) has played a decisive role in the achievements of Hungarian livestock farming to date, and continues to actively contribute to the development of the sector. The strength of MÁSZ lies in its cooperation, expertise, moderation, and representation of traditions and values. He explained that within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan, we are spending more than 5,651 billion forints on the renewal of agriculture. Based on the government’s latest decision, approximately 55 percent of the budget, i.e. 3,153.6 billion forints, will go to agricultural and rural development.
The State Secretary emphasized that this year, the experiences gained in the treatment of foot-and-mouth disease had to be transferred to everyday life
The long-term, safe operation of livestock farms must also be ensured in the future, with special attention paid to prevention. The government has provided 12.5 billion forints for this this year, and 4.5 billion forints are available to support the costs of transporting and disposing of animal carcasses. The subsidies provided to the Hungarian food industry also help livestock farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to view the Hungarian Livestock Breeders’ Association and breeding organizations as important partners, said Imre Hubai.
