Gyulahús Kft. will carry out technological development worth almost 4.5 billion forints in the next three years, the municipally owned company announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Ernő Görgényi (Fidesz-KDNP), Mayor of Gyula, said that the company, which has been operating since 2013, has received support exceeding 2.2 billion forints with a 50 percent intensity.

He reminded that the company, which employs 350 people, has operated profitably every year since 2013, and last year its after-tax profit exceeded 479 million forints. The owner has reinvested the profit into developments every year, he emphasized.

Managing Director Zsolt Daka recalled that the tender entitled Complex Development of Processing Plants was published last year, for which the application was submitted last September; the supporting document was received on Monday.

In response to MTI’s question, he said that the support is mixed-financed, mostly domestic, with a smaller part coming from the Common Agricultural Policy (KAP) strategic plan source. A minimal loan will be taken out to secure the 2.2 billion forints of self-financing. There are 36 months available to implement the investment, but some parts of the development have already been launched, some of which will be completed within a month or two.

He explained that energy development worth about one billion forints is taking place at the Kétegyházi út plant, and more than three billion forints at the Béke súgarút plant, primarily of a technological nature. At the latter site, the single maturation plant built by András Stéberl is being renovated. The boilers that produce domestic hot water are being replaced, the cooling system is being modernized, and new machines are being purchased.

The main goal of the development is to ensure long-term competitiveness, reduce the cost of product production, increase production efficiency and improve operational safety – said Zsolt Daka.

He added that the gas savings can be estimated at several hundred thousand cubic meters per year from the approximately one million cubic meters of gas used annually. Thanks to the new technology, no gas will be used for heating in the ripening room at all, he said.

According to István Kónya (Fidesz-KDNP), Deputy Mayor and Fidesz constituency chairman, the investment is also important because Gyulahús is the region’s dominant economic enterprise, “a curiosity in the county as well, since the Hungaricum produces Gyula sausage.”
