The companies expect only moderate expansion
The weakness of the domestic and German economies is also reflected in the business mood of the member companies of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DUIHK). According to company feedback, no significant acceleration of economic growth is expected even by 2024.
This is clear from the business cycle report of the DUIHK presented on Wednesday, for which the Chamber interviewed around 250 member companies and Hungarian members of other foreign partner chambers. According to the report, labor market conditions remain a major challenge for companies. At the same time, there were no major surprises in terms of the quality of the investment environment, both positive and negative changes were observed.
DUIHK’s president, András Sávos, said during the presentation of the economic report that after the very pessimistic economic expectations of last fall’s survey, we may have now reached the bottom, but no significant recovery is expected. This is also shown by the DUIHK Investor Sentiment Index, which summarizes the many results of the survey, and which in the past mostly gave a fairly accurate picture of Hungary’s general economic development. This year, the index was almost exactly the same as the previous year’s value of +3, which indicates only a very slight increase at best.
