Only alternative, organic and free-range eggs sold in four SPAR stores
From the end of January 2024, on a trial basis four SPAR stores in Budapest sell only alternative, organic and free-range eggs, excluding cage eggs from the assortment.
SPAR has been gradually phasing out the latter from the market, in accordance with EU efforts to end caged farming in member states. In the four designated stores SPAR continues to offer a wide range of eggs, with 16 alternative, organic and free-range products. In 2023 nearly 4% percent of all eggs sold in SPAR stores were from free-range production.
