Civil protest against the support of the giant seed distributor
All over the world more than 150 non-governmental organizations protest against the support of Monsanto by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) – the Association of Hungarian Conservationists and the Central and Eastern European Bankwatch Network announced on Monday.
According to the joint release of the two organizations, the EBRD should decide in April 2013 whether to give 40 million USD financial guarantee to Monsanto if the agricultural firms can not pay for seeds and pesticides, that they contracted with the giant company. The EBRD would give the support for contracts with medium and large farmers, distributors in Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. (MTI)
