The world’s wholesale markets will meet in Budapest
Budapest will be the host of the World Union of Wholesale Markets’ (WUWM) next meeting on 27-29 May 2015. The event will focus on cooperation between wholesale and retail markets and on how to popularise them. Budapest Wholesale Market Zrt. and the Hall and Market Directorate of the Municipality of Budapest will organise the conference together. The event offers a great promotional opportunity to Budapest as participants will visit the Budapest Wholesale Market, and the Great Market Hall – voted Europe’s best marketplace last year – and other marketplaces in Budapest. WUWM was established in Germany in 1958 and its objectives include sharing experiences and emphasising the role marketplaces play in the retail trade system and in consumption in general. Currently WUWM has nearly 200 members from 45 countries. WUWM’s Retail Section was founded in 2008 and its goal is to unite the world’s famous traditional food markets to share their knowledge and expertise. The Budapest Wholesale Market has been a member since 1991 and the Hall and Market Directorate of the Municipality of Budapest joined in 2009. WUWM organises conferences twice a year with 120-180 participants at the usually 3-day events.(x)
