Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival 2025 – Three days of wine, champagne and culture
The Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival, which has become one of the most significant wine cultural events in the country, will be hosting its 35th edition between September 5th and 7th. During the event, wine and champagne lovers can visit iconic locations such as the Törley Champagne Factory, the Sauska Winery, the Katona Wine House and the Záborszky Mansion.
The festival’s patron is Dr. Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary for Families at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. The three-day, free-to-attend event is a celebration of wine, champagne, gastronomy, culture and community experiences, where all ages can find programs to their liking.
A special moment this year will be the signing of a cooperation agreement between Tokaj and Budafok-Tétény, which will be signed by the mayors of the two settlements on the closing day. The document aims to support the work of winemakers, as well as to encourage viticulture, winemaking, wine tourism and cultured wine consumption.
“The love of wine, sparkling wine, gastronomy and culture has been woven into the everyday life of Budafok-Tétény for centuries. The tradition dating back to Roman times, the flourishing wine trade during the monarchy and the unique cellar system of more than 100 kilometers all contribute to the special character of our district”
– said Ferenc Karsay, Mayor of Budafok-Tétény. He added: “It is a matter of pride that viticulture and winemaking are traditions that still live on today, and it is also special that more than two-thirds of Hungarian winemakers learned the profession here.”
The opening event of the festival is the traditional blessing of the grapes, and one of its prominent co-events is the György Kolonics memorial exhibition, which is hosted by the Magdolna Udvar.
The Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival is not only about the passion for wine and champagne, but also a tribute to all the communities who have worked for generations to ensure that Budafok can rightfully bear the title of Budapest’s Wine District.
