25 billion USD business in the U.S. tobacco market
The U.S. cigarette manufacturer Reynolds American buys the rival Lorilland company for 25 billion USD. With this step, the two oldest U.S. tobacco companies will be united.
The merger of the second and third largest U.S. tobacco company will pose a challenge to the market leader Altria Group, which owns the Philip Morris.
The transaction can be established only with the permission of the relevant competition authority. The companies have announced that they sell the Kool, Salem, Winston and Maverick brands to the Imperial Tobacco Group for 7.1 billion USD. (MTI-Eco, napi.hu)
