The price increase in the confectionery industry is brutal
The drastic increase in the price of confectionery raw materials has been incorporated into their prices one by one by the Swiss chocolate manufacturers, who are confident that munching on a bar of chocolate will make them forget their worries about the recession and further increase their incomes.
The salmonella infection imported from Hungary left its mark on the performance of the world’s largest producer of quality cocoa and chocolate. The production of the Swiss Barry Callebaut fell by 5.1 percent in the financial quarter that ended in November from the level of a year earlier, i.e. from 610 thousand tons to 570 thousand tons. The decrease is to blame for the forced shutdown at Barry Callebaut’s largest processing plant in Wieze, Belgium, reports Világgazdaság.
Barry Callebaut, which supplies chocolate raw materials for further use to Nestlé and Unilever, among others, validated its associated expenses in its resale prices which were raised in the meantime – the indirect effects of which can also be seen in the pricing of chocolate products in Hungary.
