Brussels rejects the re-introduction of milk quotas
The European Commission in Brussels rejects the idea to introduce the milk quota sytem again in the EU – Phil Hogan EU Commissioner responsible for agricultural affairs said on Wednesday. The milk quota sytem was terminated in early April after three decades.
“We should sustain the market orientation of the Common Agricultural Policy” – Hogan said at a press conference.
Because of the depressed milk market prices, the agriculture ministers of the EU countries will meet on 7 September at an extraordinary meeting. According to the leaked plans so far – they plan the imposition of “emergency measures”. (MTI)
