Brazil’s coffee exports rose to record levels
Brazil’s coffee exports have reached new milestones in recent months, as May data shows. The country exported 4.4 million bags of coffee this month, which not only surpassed the previous month’s record, but also represents a 79.9% increase compared to the same period last year, the ESM retail trade portal reported.
According to the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé), export earnings reached $1.02 billion in May, an 85.9% increase over last year’s figures. In the first five months of this year, Brazil exported a total of 20.69 million bags of coffee, which is a 52.1% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of exported coffee in this period reached 4.47 billion dollars, which is also a record.
The increase in exports was significantly supported by the exceptional performance of robusta coffee, which performed outstandingly in May with the export of 868,270 bags. Arabica coffee continues to play a dominant role in Brazilian coffee exports, as this variety accounted for 75.7% of the total exported volume in the period between January and May.
