Wine competition at a higher level
Tamás Tornai, the president of the National Council of Wine Communities (HNT) told at a press conference that they wish to integrate many existing wine competitions into the Hungarian Wine Show, turning it into the nation’s most important wine contest. HNT hopes that winner wines will represent Hungary well in international competitions and raise the prestige of Hungarian wines in foreign markets. This year’s competition took place at the end of May. Winners were picked by a 42-member jury of experts. Tesco was one of the main sponsors. Sourcing director János Pirint told that in 2014 three quarters of their wine suppliers and 97 percent of the wines sold were Hungarian. Tesco sold more than 17 million bottles of Hungarian wine last year.
