Beer industry optimistic about PET ottles
Recession in the market of beer began in the autumn of 2007 and has continued ever since. All segments have been effected similarly, with no shift in the market towards cheaper products. However, promotions account for a bigger part of sales than before. Practically all manufacturers have launched 1-2 litre sizes in PET bottles. Although the PET bottle segment accounts for only 2-3 percent of sales at the moment, leading breweries have built up a substantial production capacity in the hope of future demand. While Heineken is active in the football Champions League, a more attractive green bottle has been introduced for Soproni and Soproni Démon ale has also become very popular. The Soproni Volt and Heineken Balaton Sound festivals have been very successful in promoting these brands.
