Despite the coronavirus pandemic, department store chains expect increased year-end demand – Világgazdaság Online wrote. There is a chain of stores that expects 40 percent of their annual turnover from the fourth quarter, and elsewhere the basket value will increase by 25 percentage points before the holidays, compared to the average of the first three quarters.

Normally, the fourth quarter is prominent in retail chains, this period usually accounts for an above-average share of annual sales, but this year, the coronavirus pandemic re-wrote the plans. Tesco’s press department has indicated to the World Economy that the Christmas period is indeed the strongest in terms of traffic in this sector, with the coming weeks expected to be decisive this year as well.

True, at Tesco, the business year runs from March to February, meaning the last three months don’t coincide with the fourth quarter on the calendar. (vg.hu, Gyöngyösi Balázs)
