Private label is making large market share gains in organic food products
According to TNS, in the UK, seven of the top ten selling organic products are now retailer brands.
Tesco Organic has more than 1,200 items. Sainsbury's So
Organic range "has been a category star" and climbed into second place.
Meanwhile organic sales have climbed 18% at Waitrose, while Marks & Spencer
has doubled the number of its organic lines in the past year.
In France, Système U announced plans to add 80 organic products under the Bio U
name in October. The range will focus on milk, pasta, coffee, fruit juice,
cereals, biscuits, chocolate and honey. In Switzerland, Spar has extended its
organic Spar Natur Pur range and is now using eco-friendly recyclable
packaging. In The Czech Republic, the discounter Plus has disclosed plans to
launch a range of more than 40 organic products.
