Unbalanced poultry
The Agricultural Research Institute (AKI) monitors international poultry and meat market trends which are published in regular publications. Data from KSH and the price info system of AKI is worth looking at before making even short term business decisions. However, long term trends sometimes prove to be unreliable, like in the first months of this year, when poultry prices rose as a result of last year’s bird flu scare. This effect is expected to wear off by May and we will probably see solid over supply again. World production of poultry continued to increase in 2006 – by 2 percent – according to AKI data. Exports declined by 5 per cent as a result of the bird flu hazard but are expected to increase by 4 per cent this year.
