The Parajd salt mine was closed to visitors
The salt mine in Parajd was closed to visitors on Monday after groundwater seeped into the old tunnels, and as a result, the humidity of the air in the halls that could be visited increased, the management of the Romanian tourist attraction announced.
The Hargita county mine – which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Székelyföld – had to be closed for technical reasons, the institution announced on its social media page. They wrote that they will welcome visitors again from Tuesday morning.
József Sebestyén, the head of the facility, told the Romanian news agency Agerpres that the mine had to be closed because water seeped into the old shafts as a result of the heavy rains of the last few days and the melting of the snow.
According to the director, several hours are needed to ventilate the underground halls and allow tourists to use them again. He emphasized that the mine will be reopened to visitors on Tuesday morning.
