The EU can ban the aspartame sweetener
The European Commission called on the EU's food safety control organization, the EFSA to re-evaluate the effects of using aspartame in the scope of a comprehensive study. The studies showing the negative effects of the sweetener are already open to the public since last year and the European Parliament wants to review the authorizations of aspartame for many years.
The sweetener called aspartame has been re-evaluated five times since its European launch in 1994, investigating its possible harmful side effects. According to the next scheduled examination, its chemical inspection would be carried out in 2020, because all food additives will be reviewed by the European Union in that year – reports tozsdeforum.hu.
