Disposable plastic bags were banned in New York State
On March 1, a ban on disposable plastic bags came into effect in New York, where about 23 billion plastic bags have been sold each year – origo wrote.
The state’s waste management law prohibits the use of plastic bags by almost all businesses. Instead, shops are offering five cents a paper bag or a reusable plastic bag, and after a transitional period, the authorities impose heavy penalties on those who break the law. (origo)
