Frozen corn can be dangerous
In its assessment – published last week – the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), linked quick-frozen corn to the Listeria disease affecting five EU Member States.
Listeria monocytogenes bacteria are often found in foods, but only cause sickness in case of higher bacterial counts. To reduce the risk of Listeria monocytogenes infection from frozen corn, consumers should adequately heat frozen vegetables that are not ready-to-eat products. This applies especially to consumers at the highest risk of contracting listeriosis – such as the elderly, pregnant women, new-borns and adults with weakened immune systems. (agrarszektor.hu)
