Paying the wages in euros: in what cases is it possible?
Due to the unpredictable changes in the forint exchange rate, the question may arise more and more often for employers as to how the purchase value of the wages to be paid to employees can be maintained.
It may seem like a possible solution to pay wages to employees in foreign currency, however, the employment rules currently in force only allow for this in exceptional cases, as it is basically necessary to settle salaries in forints.
According to the Labor Code, employers must set wages in forints and pay them to employees. Since the provision is of a general nature, it is also applicable to basic salary, allowances, and bonuses and bonuses. However, the law contains exceptions. If, for example, it is a question of an employee in a senior position, or if the employee performs his/her work partially or entirely abroad, the salary can be provided in another currency.
