Meat producers are in trouble
Despite the year end family feasts meat consumption decreases by one-tenth this year, and meat prices did not increased due to the VAT increase in the middle of the year.
According to the recent market report of the Agricultural Research Institute (AKI); in Hungary, the domestic pork price decreased by 8 percent compared to the previous month and by 9 percent, compared to October 2008.
Exports outside the EU is still lagging behind, so the big exporting countries try to place the goods inside the EU internal market. Hungary’s further problem is the weak forint, because this strengthens the imports – reports Népszabadság Online.
