This August was the hottest in the last sixty years in the neighboring tourist paradise
Croatia has experienced the warmest August in the last six decades – announced the Croatian Meteorological Service (DHMZ), which also pointed out that since 1961, 16 cities in the country have not recorded such high temperatures in the eighth month of the year, and the capital has never been so hot.
Calendar autumn started on Sunday, but high daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius are still being reported in Croatia. Several heat waves hit the region this year, and in August it was even hotter than before, six-decade heat records were broken in 16 Croatian cities, including Osijek, Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Rijeka.
In addition, the average air temperature in the first eight months of the year exceeded the average for the period 1991-2020 everywhere.
In Zagreb, it was the first time that the night temperature in no part of the city fell below 25 degrees Celsius, while the sea temperature in Dubrovnik set a record when it reached 30 degrees Celsius. The previous record was set two years ago, on July 4, 2022, when the Adriatic Sea was 29.1 degrees Celsius.
According to the DHMZ forecast, no cooling is expected in autumn either, September will certainly be warmer than usual not only on the coast, but also in the central part of the country, and October and November are expected to be warmer than average.
