Producer prices of slaughter cattle are also rising in the EU
According to AKI slaughter statistics, in January 2025, cattle slaughter in Hungary increased by 27.8 percent in live weight compared to January 2024. Cows, which account for more than two-thirds of all slaughters, increased by 6.3 percent, heifers by 9 percent, while bulls decreased by almost 12 percent.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports did not change (64 thousand tons), while their value decreased by 1.9 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. The volume of beef exports decreased by 11.8 percent (7.8 thousand tons), while their value did not change significantly. Hungary’s live cattle imports exceeded the previous year’s figure by 3.2 percent (22 thousand tons), while their value increased by 5.6 percent. The volume of beef imports increased by 9.2 percent (14.6 thousand tons) and the value by 14.2 percent in the observed period.
According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of slaughter cattle increased in the 1st–8th week of 2025
The producer price of a young bull per 1 kg of carcass warm weight was HUF 1,622, that of a slaughter heifer HUF 1,215 and that of a slaughter cow HUF 1,280. In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entry price of a young bull of the “R3” commercial class was EUR 5.78/kilogram of carcass cold weight in the 1st–8th week of 2025, which represents a 15.3 percent increase compared to the previous year. The price of a cow “O3” increased by 18.3 percent and the price of a heifer “R3” by 11.8 percent in the observed period.
