The price of slaughter pigs decreased in the EU and in Hungary

In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entry price of pigs belonging to the “E” commercial class was 2.02 euros/kilogram cold carcass weight in August 2025, a decrease of 3 percent in one year. The pig prices of companies and slaughterhouses that are decisive for the EU pig market were on average 0.5 percent lower in the 38th week of 2025 compared to the average price of the same week of the previous year.

The German contract price and the Tönnies purchase price were 1.85 euros/kilogram carcass weight in the observed week. Vion bought pigs at 1.6, Danish Crown and Tican at 1.63 euros/kilogram carcass weight in the 38th week. The German contract price and the Tönnies purchase price decreased by 5 percent in the 38th week after several weeks of stagnation. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 772 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in August 2025, a decrease of 3.6 percent compared to the average price a year earlier.
