E-payment is popular after the post-pandemic reopening too
E-payment solutions remained popular after the easing of the coronavirus pandemic related restrictions – data from OTP Bank illustrates this very well. Since 1 January 2021 every online cash register operating enterprise is obliged provide an e-payment service option to customers. Noémi Hideg, OTP Bank’s head of card acceptance services and ATM management told: many businesses only started offering e-payment services after the post-pandemic reopening, but the bank was prepared for the increased demand for payment terminals with several types of solutions.

In the first quarter of 2021 e-payment turnover grew by 12 percent and the number of transactions increased by 3 percent at OTP Bank terminals. In Q2 2021 the dynamic growth continued at a rate above 20 percent and the average payment sum also grew. In the first six months OTP Bank installed new POS terminals, thanks to which there were 10.5 percent more of these than in the first half of 2020.
Since September 2020 the bank’s SimpleBusiness app has been available to customers: by using this card acceptance and instant transfer is possible without the installation of a POS terminal. OTP Group recommends POS terminals to businesses with annual sales revenue above HUF 30 million or to companies that also accept cafeteria cards; the SimpleBusiness mobile app is the perfect choice for smaller enterprises.
These two solutions offer many advantages to both retailers and service providers:
- Payment transactions are completed in just a few seconds.
- Swift accounting – in the case of POS terminals the transfer happens within maximum 2 working days, while in the SimpleBusiness app the sum arrives to the account of the enterprise in 3 days.
- Many different types of a company’s partners and customers can utilise the payment solutions of OTP Group – their POS terminals can accept Mastercard, Maestro, VISA, Vpay, American Express (exclusively in Hungary), JCB, Union Pay and OTP bank cards, plus it also becomes possible for customers to pay with various welfare fund cards and SZÉP card. Shoppers can use the SimpleBusiness application to pay with their bank card or by transfer via their mobile phone – all they need is an internet connection.
- Customers of the card acceptance place can use OTP Group’s payment solutions with several different devices – the POS terminals provide magnetic stripe, chip, contactless and smart device payment opportunities (for instance by smartphone or smartwatch). If the SimpleBusiness application was downloaded, it is enough for customers to have a smartphone with internet connection to realise the payment.
