OTP Bank won the grand prize of the 20th Mastercard – Bank of the Year competition

OTP Bank won the grand prize of the Mastercard – Bank of the Year 2025 program. In one of the most prestigious professional competitions in the Hungarian banking sector, based on the decision of the professional jury, OTP Bank provided the most outstanding performance in the Daily Banking segment, Gránit Bank in the Innovation segment, and K&H Bank in the Beyond Banking segment.

The Mastercard – Bank of the Year competition was held for the twentieth time, which has become a defining professional event in the domestic banking sector over the past two decades.

OTP Bank, which provided the best overall performance and won the Bank of the Year grand prize, also came first in the Daily Banking segment. In the categories within the segment, the Retail Offer of the Year award went to OTP Bank, the Corporate Offer of the Year recognition went to MBH Bank – BUPA, while the first place in the Customer Retention Program of the Year category went to Gránit Bank.

The winner of the Innovation segment was Gránit Bank. In the segment categories, the Cybersecurity Program of the Year award went to OTP Bank, the Artificial Intelligence-based Innovation of the Year recognition went to Gránit Bank, while the first place in the Easy and Convenient Banking Experience of the Year category went to K&H Bank.

In the Beyond Banking segment, K&H Bank was the winner. Within the segment, MBH Bank won in the Marketing Communication Campaign of the Year category, K&H Bank won in the CSR Program of the Year category, and Erste Bank and BÁV Faktor won in the New Dimensions of Payment category.

The anniversary Mastercard – Bank of the Year gala also recognized a banking performance that has been continuously and decisively present in the industry and in the operation of the Hungarian economy for decades: Dr. Sándor Csányi, Chairman of OTP Bank, was awarded the Mastercard – Bank of the Year 2006-2025 Grand Prize.

The 2025 program was announced in three segments, nine categories; This year’s competition highlighted areas where significant changes are visible in the sector’s operations: customer retention, artificial intelligence and merchant collaborations.

“The Mastercard – Bank of the Year competition has been a defining professional event in the Hungarian banking sector for twenty years now, focusing on recognizing and celebrating the performance of banks. The number and diversity of this year’s applications also indicated that professional interest in the program is unbroken. The submitted solutions clearly showed that banks are developing their services along innovation focal points and with a long-term perspective. The jury’s decisions this year also reflected that those solutions stand out that transform technological opportunities into tangible value that can be easily interpreted by the customer”

The organizers have consciously shaped the program’s category system over the years to reflect the constantly changing challenges and opportunities of the financial sector as accurately as possible, and to highlight where innovation creates real value – for retail customers, business players and the entire financial ecosystem.

The financial institutions and fintech players participating in the competition applied for awards for the best services, programs and digital solutions in a wide range of categories. The applications were evaluated by an independent, highly prestigious professional jury, as is tradition.

The awards gala was held in Budapest on February 12, 2026.
