Soil preparation has been completed on half of the autumn sowing areas
Based on the data of the operative reports for the subject date of October 8, the planned area of autumn-sown crops this year is 1.54 million hectares, 49.8 percent of which has been prepared. The planned area of spring-sown crops is 1.63 million hectares, where soil preparation works stood at 2 percent at the time of the report.

The domestic production area of corn in 2024 was 874 thousand hectares, of which 701.5 thousand hectares, 80.3 percent of the total area, were harvested by October 8. The average yield decreased by 24 percent compared to the base year, and was around 5.6 tons per hectare. Producers achieved the lowest average yield in Csongrád-Csanád county (3 tons/hectare), the highest in Győr-Moson-Sopron county (7.8 tons/hectare), and the variance between counties was significant. 96.9 percent of the sunflower sowing area has already been harvested, so far 1.7 million tons of sunflowers have been harvested from a total of 658.3 thousand hectares. The national average yield decreased compared to the previous year’s level, to 2.5 tons/hectare. The lowest yield average was reported from the county of Csongrád-Csanád (1.8 tons/hectare), the highest from the counties of Hajdú-Bihar and Tolna (3 tons/hectare).
The harvest of some of the vegetables highlighted in the report is coming to an end
In terms of yield averages, there is an increase everywhere – with the exception of sweet corn and hot pepper. The smallest expansion occurred in the evening of cabbage and red onion (+9–12 percent). The average yields of tomatoes and green peppers were 54.9 and 29.3 tons per hectare, respectively, an increase of 19-20 percent compared to last year.
Grapes and plums showed the highest degree of readiness among the fruits harvested in autumn, at 98 percent at the time of the report
The average yield of plums was nearly 8.1 tons per hectare, 4.5 percent more than in 2023. The harvest of winter apples, the fruit grown in the largest volume, stood at 78.1 percent on the day of the report, and the average yield (14.9 tons/hectare) fell to two-thirds of the previous year’s amount. It produced 7.6 tons of pears per hectare, 22.7 percent less than in 2023.
