The new trend in fall travel: Generation Z is looking for affordable luxury
According to fresh Airbnb data, travel searches by Generation Z have increased by 26% compared to last year. Young travelers are primarily planning longer international trips, in contrast to Millennials, who still favor shorter, mostly domestic getaways.
Value for Money and Seasonal Advantages
The survey shows that price is the main factor shaping Gen Z’s travel decisions: more than 80% of respondents highlighted cost as the most important consideration. No surprise then that 42% find autumn travel especially appealing, with cheaper flights and accommodation alongside fewer tourist crowds.
Affordable Luxury – Unique Experiences at a Reasonable Price
For Gen Z, “affordable luxury” does not mean five-star hotels or exclusive restaurants, but rather unique experiences at accessible prices. According to Airbnb, the most popular choices are those under 100 dollars that promise unforgettable memories – such as a French pastry-making workshop in Paris, a behind-the-scenes dance class with a Crazy Horse cabaret performer, vintage treasure hunting at a Paris flea market, or guided food tours showcasing local markets and restaurants.
Turning to International Travel
While Millennials still tend to opt for domestic trips, Gen Z is increasingly reaching for their passports. The appeal of autumn lies in the combination of attractive prices and more authentic experiences, away from the peak season’s crowds.
The research also revealed the top fall destinations for Gen Z travelers – a list published in detail by Origo.
