Secretary General of the National Trade Association: the price cap can be a big problem
According to György Vámos, Secretary General of the National Trade Association, procurement prices – the transfer prices of the food industry – are rising even faster than consumer prices, which can quickly lead to trouble. In this area, the rate of price increase was over 40 percent in July, while the store price exceeded the 30 percent growth threshold in August – the expert told Népszava.

The price freeze could cause serious food shortages
“After all, the biggest cost of commercial companies is procurement, on top of that is the loss resulting from the price cap, and now the drastic increase in utility prices”
he explained.
“However, this is not the only problem with the food price freeze, but the fact that a shortage can develop, or in some places has already developed, from the price freeze products. Despite the fact that several stores limited the amount that can be purchased from the price freeze products. For example, sugar was not available in many discount stores in the Balaton area to get, and more recently, customers have been complaining about the lack of 2.8 percent UHT milk”
– he said.
