The Parliament prohibited the levying of the land tax by law
“Never more land tax”, this is what the farmers asked the Hungarian government for, and we now guarantee this in law – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy stated in a video uploaded on his social media page on Tuesday.

The Parliament adopted the law against the land tax on Tuesday. The minister explained: the new regulation prohibits the imposition of land tax on mayors and municipalities. “We considered this necessary because the left’s joint candidate for prime minister, the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, imposed a land tax on local farmers during the current war, after the epidemic and the historic drought. If the left does this in one settlement, it is ready to do it in other left-led also in the settlement,” said István Nagy.
The Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Unions and Farmers’ Cooperatives and the National Chamber of Agriculture jointly acted to abolish the land tax, their petition against the land tax was signed by more than 120,000 people, including the minister.
The minister continued: taxing farmers would take away resources from the sector, and the land tax would affect the price of food, “thus the wallets of the Hungarian people will feel it”. He added: the government heard the voice of the Hungarian farmers and acted immediately. “We could not let the left-wing settlement leaders put even more burdens on the farmers affected by the war, the failed Brussels sanctions and the historic drought,” said the Minister of Agriculture. He emphasized that there is now a legal guarantee that agricultural land cannot form the basis of taxes. “The bill that has just been adopted was of course developed by the government together with the farmers’ organizations”. The Hungarian government always stands by Hungarian farmers under all circumstances. “We will protect the interests of Hungarian farmers both here and in Brussels. No more land tax!” he stated.
