The Self-Regulatory Advertising Board (ÖRT) welcomes Nissan’s decision
The Self-Regulatory Advertising Board (ÖRT) welcomes the decision of the Hungarian distributor of the Nissan brand to take swift action to remove the dealer advertising campaign for Nissan models that was released recently, in response to the public outcry, which, according to some, contained offensive references to the female gender.
Zsolt Gerendi, Secretary General of ÖRT, said: “The case highlights the importance of self-regulation and quick reaction in the advertising industry. Nissan has heard the criticism of consumers and society and has made the decision to withdraw the advertisement on its own authority.”
It is of utmost importance for those involved in the advertising industry to take social sensitivities and ethical standards into account when communicating. ÖRT continues to support responsible advertising practices and believes that self-regulation and prior compliance play a prominent role in the life of every advertising company.
ÖRT draws attention to the fact that the Hungarian Advertising Ethics Code – which it maintains jointly with the Hungarian Advertising Association (MRSZ) – aims to provide effective assistance and ethical guidelines for professionals involved in advertising production.
