The number of smartphone payments increased by 49 percent in January
The number of smartphone payments increased by 49 percent in January compared to a year earlier. This was coupled with a 58 percent increase in traffic, K&H said. Among the various alternatives, Google Pay payments achieved the most significant growth: the number of transactions increased by 53 percent, and the amount spent was 60 percent higher. At the same time, based on the amount per transaction, Apple takes the premium.
Smartphone payments continue to soar: after last year, the number of transactions and the amount of purchases increased significantly in January this year, K&H announced based on the latest own data.
A series of surprises
In the first month of the year, a total of nearly 4.6 million customers of the financial institution paid with smartphones, which is 49 percent higher than last January’s level. The amount of transactions increased by 58 percent and approached HUF 35 billion.
“It is a relatively new payment solution, so we expect growth every month, but the numbers often show surprisingly dynamic growth. Based on the January data, it also appears that more and more people are choosing safe and convenient smartphone payments,” commented András Árva, K&H’s marketing manager responsible for the residential segment, on the data.
