NGM is satisfied with the increase in retail turnover
The Ministry of National Economy (NGM) responded in a statement to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), according to which the volume of retail trade in July 2025 – adjusted for calendar effects – exceeded the same period of the previous year by 1.7 percent.
The sales volume of food and food-related mixed stores increased by 2.3 percent, within which food-related mixed stores, which account for 76 percent of food retail trade, showed a 3.4 percent increase. The volume of sales in non-food retail trade increased by 2.9 percent.
Retail trade turnover amounted to 1,739 billion forints at current prices in July. In the first seven months of the year, the total turnover volume exceeded the value measured in the same period of 2024 by 2.9 percent.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance indicated in its commentary on the statistical data: the ministry assesses the development of retail turnover as favorable, which indicates the stabilization of economic processes.
