LG releases its 2024-2025 sustainability report
LG Electronics (LG) has released its 2024-2025 Sustainability Report, officially reporting on significant progress towards achieving its 2030 environmental goals, including greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions and circular economy. The report outlines the company’s comprehensive efforts to embed sustainability into its operations, in line with its sustainability vision of “A Better Life for All.” In 2024, LG’s Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions totaled 910,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂eq), bringing the company closer to its 2030 target of 878,000 tons. The company previously set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 54.6 percent by 2030 compared to 2017 levels. The goal was achieved ahead of schedule by proactively implementing energy-efficient equipment and carbon-reducing technologies across multiple manufacturing processes.
LG is also taking steps to reduce Scope 3 emissions – carbon emissions from product use – through the wider use of artificial intelligence and other energy-saving technologies. In 2024, the company reduced carbon emissions from product use by 19.4 percent compared to 2020 levels. Notably, LG was the first South Korean home appliance manufacturer to have its emissions reduction targets officially recognized by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). SBTi targets include a 20 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions in seven key product categories by 2030, compared to a 2020 baseline.
Progress has also been made in the area of circular economy. LG achieved a 97.4 percent waste recycling rate at its global manufacturing sites in 2024, exceeding its 95 percent target for 2030. The company also collected a total of 532,630 tons of used electronics from 91 locations in 56 countries last year, bringing the total collected to more than 5 million tons since 2006. LG also increased the amount of recycled plastics used in its products by 36 percent compared to the previous year.
LG remains committed to making its products and services accessible and usable to everyone. LG Comfort Kit, designed to make home appliances easier to use regardless of age, gender, or physical ability, now includes 14 products. Accessibility features such as screen reading on LG OLED TVs and simultaneous audio output to hearing aids and speakers, as well as kiosks with height-adjustable and tactile keyboards, all demonstrate this commitment. The company also provides inclusive services such as care programs for people with disabilities, sign language consultations, senior support, and in-store educational sessions on safety, IT, and culture.
LG also continues to strengthen its responsible corporate governance practices through a governance structure built on compliance and ethics. The company’s Board of Directors operates under the principles of independence, expertise, and transparency, while the ESG Committee plays an increasingly important role in overseeing sustainability initiatives. In its supply chain, LG supports shared development through third-party ESG audits conducted in accordance with the standards of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA).
