LG presents its new sustainable energy management solution at IFA
At IFA 2023, LG Electronics (LG) will demonstrate its vision for a more sustainable lifestyle at the company’s Net Zero House booth. On site, LG presents a comprehensive energy management concept that integrates household energy management and complete heating and cooling. The Home Energy Platform solution consists of an Energy Storing System (ESS) and the Therma V™ R290 Monobloc Air to Water Heat Pump (AWHP).
The LG Home Energy Platform is a comprehensive energy solution for more sustainable homes. The solution combining the company’s ESS system and the LG Therma V heat pump on one platform offers efficient heating and user-friendly energy management from production to storage to economical use.
As a single system, LG Therma V ensures indoor comfort throughout the year, while guaranteeing more energy-efficient operation than traditional heating and cooling systems. With the European decarbonization goals in mind, Therma V R290 helps users reduce their household’s carbon footprint: the heat pump device also uses the heat content of the outdoor air to get its energy from the environment. The system is also capable of producing domestic hot water.
The energy storage system, which can be easily connected to LG’s heat pump, offers an innovative and convenient solution for maximizing the efficiency of renewable energy use at home, and serves as a backup power source in the event of a power outage. During the day, when solar energy production is most efficient, excess energy is stored in the ESS battery and can be redirected to the heat pump’s integrated water tank. In the evening, when energy consumption is typically high, ESS uses the stored energy to produce hot water and operate household appliances, increasing energy efficiency and energy self-sufficiency. In the event of a power outage, ESS can help provide essential functions such as heating, cooling and lighting. The excess energy stored in the ESS battery can be stored for later use, but it can also be sold to the contracted power supplier.
In addition to the Therma V, users can connect the energy storage system to a number of LG home appliances, including a washing machine, refrigerator, oven, dishwasher and Styler laundry care device, and even the company’s electric vehicle charger. At the IFA exhibition, visitors to the Net-Zero House can view a wall diagram of how the energy stored in the system flows to all the installed devices, reducing both the load on the electrical network and the monthly energy costs.
The Home Energy Platform, which debuted at the exhibition, is also compatible with LG ThinQ Energy. The intuitively usable energy management solution allows users to conveniently control all the smart home appliances and the heat pump system integrated in the system from their smartphones, as well as continuously monitor energy storage and consumption. Devices that have an energy-saving mode also further reduce energy consumption – this can also be easily selected through the ThinQ application.*
“The Net-Zero House, featuring our innovative energy management solutions, including ThinQ Energy’s Home Energy Platform, at IFA demonstrates LG’s commitment to the development of sustainable solutions,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG’s home appliance and air conditioning business. “We will continue to work to apply our market-leading technologies to solutions that benefit people and the planet.”
Visitors to the 2023 IFA September 1-5. between, you can see the Net-Zero House concept in person at the LG stand (Hall 18, Messe Berlin). Product availability may vary by region and country.
