The GVH negotiated with the food industry and trade professional organizations on the reduction of inflation
The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) held a consultation with seven food industry and trade professional organizations and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture regarding its proposals aimed at reducing inflation published last week – the competition authority informed MTI on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, on May 8, the GVH released the draft report of the accelerated sectoral investigation on the market of durable foods (canned and frozen products) for public consultation. Based on the results of the investigation, the authority’s experts formulated six proposals and action points, which can contribute to more effective competition, strengthening market competition, and thereby reducing prices. They proposed encouraging the production of vegetables and fruits in Hungary, increasing efficiency, automating agricultural production and installing irrigation systems, supporting the use of renewable energy sources, and encouraging the development of precision agricultural vocational training and sustainable packaging systems.
The GVH also indicated that it will continue to pay increased official attention to the commercial sector
“Today’s consultation was convened so that our findings and proposals become practical measures as quickly as possible. We are looking for concrete solutions that can contribute to a further reduction in inflation. We are on the right track,” Csaba Rigó, president of the GVH, was quoted as saying in the announcement. Market participants can make written comments on the draft report until June 8, after which the GVH will publish the received feedback on its website.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the National Trade Association, the Hungarian National Trade Association, the ÁFEOSZ-COOP Association, the FruitVeB Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Product Council, the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Producers’ Association, the Hungarian Refrigeration and Canning Industry Association and the Association of Responsible Food Producers , as well as representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture took part.
