The European Parliament proposes to ban electric fishing
The European Parliament (EP) in its plenary meeting in Strasbourg called for a ban on electric fishing in Europe on Tuesday. When electric fishing, electric wires are hung into the water, the current stuns the fish, which is then near the surface.
According to experts, the resolution is contrary to the European Commission’s proposal to extend the use of the method in the North Sea, where it has been experimentally approved on a small scale. The EP will negotiate with the other EU co-legislator.
