The EU has approved the use of domestical crickets as food
The European Commission has authorized the marketing of domestical crickets (Acheta domesticus) as a novel food or food ingredient in the European Union, the EU committee announced on Friday.
The domestical cricket is the third insect to be allowed on the EU market as a food ingredient, after the European Commission approved the use of the larvae of the common flea beetle (Tenebrio molitor) last July and the migratory locust (Migratory locust) in November. (Szabolcs Gebauer, MTI)
