Global smartphone sales grew in the first quarter
After last year’s big downturn, smartphone sales rose more than a quarter in the first quarter of this year, according to a report released on Monday by market research firm Gartner. The five market leaders further increased their market share to the detriment of all other market players.
Last year, global smartphone sales fell 12.5 percent for the year as a whole. In the fourth quarter, however, the year-on-year decline was more modest at 5.4 percent. Last year, a total of 1.347 billion smartphones were sold worldwide.
In the first quarter of this year, smartphone sales rose 26 percent from a year earlier, from 300 million to 378 million. (MTI)
