The export of live pigs increased by 58 percent
According to KSH data, Hungary’s live pig exports increased by 58 percent (8.7 thousand tons) in January-March 2024 compared to the amount in January-March 2023. The main partners were Romania, Austria and Albania.

Imports of live pigs increased by 11 percent to 17.9 thousand tons, Slovakia, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic being the largest suppliers. The quantity of pork sold on the international market increased by 20.6 percent (39.8 thousand tons), and its value increased by 21.2 percent during the observed period. Most of the pork was shipped to Romania, Italy and Croatia. The volume of pork imports increased by 9.2 percent (39.2 thousand tons), and its value was 17.6 percent higher than in the first quarter of 2023. More than two-thirds of the pork came from Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland. According to the data of the AKI PÁIR, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs without VAT and transport costs was 841 forints/kilogram of carcass hot weight in the 21st week of 2024, a decrease of 8 percent compared to the average price of the same week of the previous year.
